Over the past three years, I've served my community as a Justine Consultant. The decision to become a Consultant was not just about starting a side business; it was also about achieving financial independence, supporting my family, and providing Justine products to my customers. As a result of the rapid pace of technological development in today's world, I can recruit and sell traditionally by approaching customers in public places, on public transportation, and at work. However, I am also able to do the same online, which is the most effective and effective method since I can reach many customers through my online store. Customers can visit my website, select what they wish to buy, check out and have their products delivered to them without me needing to share my digital brochure since all my products are available online.
It is possible to earn money from my Justine online store in two ways:

As an encouragement for myself to gain entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, I joined Avon during Women's Month last year after graduating. My decision to join Avon allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and grow not only in knowledge but also in skills, thus allowing me to stay competitive.
In South Africa, it is extremely difficult to obtain a job as a graduate, so I love beauty products and play with make-up as a hobby. Due to this, I decided to become a part of the Coolest make-up brand as a means of also earning an income from the sale of beauty products and skincare products while looking for full-time employment in the field in which I earned my degree.
My progress on Avon Rewards has been phenomenal within a short period of time after joining. As soon as I realized the progress I had made, I wanted to achieve more. Driven by my success, I became determined to reach even greater heights with Avon Rewards so I quickly advanced to the Gold level.
Technology runs through my veins as a millennial. I run my business primarily on social media platforms and utilize Avon On primarily for my business needs. The app allows me to share digital brochures with customers, to place orders, to pay my account, to access the Avon Connect Hub, and to share social media content with my customers.
My knowledge of digital platforms has also been enhanced by conducting one-on-one training sessions with other Representatives and Sales Leaders. As part of these training sessions, I teach new Representatives how to use the platforms and create social media accounts. Having participated in these training sessions and experiencing an increase in my sales, my Area Sales Manager recommended that I sign up to become a Sales Leader. I did not hesitate and completed those forms as fast as I could.
My journey with Avon has been a rewarding one. Although I am still new at this, I am striving to achieve the Platinum level and believe one day, my business will be a legacy for my children. Avon has helped me achieve my highest title, that of being a successful entrepreneur.

There are many different physical and mental challenges associated with working with a disability. Whether you were born with a disability or have a disability resulting from a life-altering event, living or working in spaces that do not accommodate your limitations can be frustrating.
This is sometimes the reality of Avon beauty entrepreneur, Cebile Thwala from Eswatini, a single mother of two who works as a Police Officer. Cebile has had to adapt to living with a disability that was brought about by a car accident.
Her story
I joined Avon 17 years ago - two years prior to a car accident that resulted in me losing the ability to walk. In the aftermath of my accident, I learned that people with disabilities often face obstacles in finding employment or moving around. Following my discharge from the hospital, it sank in that I would have to live my entire life in a wheelchair.
I was not ready to return to the world I once knew due to the limitations I now faced. Upon reflection, I realised that only I possess the power and potential to live life to the fullest and to be the mother my children deserve. Thankfully, because I had already embarked on an entrepreneurial journey which afforded me a life that most of my family members aspired to, I was inspired to make the most of my new life.
Luckily, in the two years prior to my car accident I had already established a good customer base and my customers relied on me to supply their favourite skin products and cosmetics. I resumed my job as a Police Officer and reconnected with my Avon customers after my recovery. This was helpful because I had realised that my salary was no longer sufficient to cover everything that my family and I need. The additional income from Avon supplemented my income and enabled me to give my children the life that I want them to have as well as the life that they want for themselves.
My son is now studying at one of South Africa's universities, while my daughter assists me in managing my business part time since she is more mobile than I am and enjoys recruiting and selling. My Avon business allows me to pay my daughter an additional salary through running my business errands whilst I am at work, such as deliveries to customers and "on the go recruitment".
Since she uses Avon products, it is easy for her to sell these products as my customers can easily observe how beautiful her skin looks as a result of using Anew and how pleasant her smell is as a result of using Avon fragrances. It is my pleasure to announce that I have been able to purchase a car I am comfortable driving with my disability with the income I make from Avon, and that I am currently in the process of building my dream home.
Despite the fact that I am confined to a wheelchair, I am not limited in what I can do; the only difference is that I cannot move in the same way that someone who is not confined to a wheelchair can. As with many others, I also recruit in-person in public places. It is important for me to set a good example for my team and demonstrate my commitment to my customers by showing my face whenever possible. Among my most effective recruitment strategies is to distribute my Avon brochures to my family members at the beginning of each month son they can take to work or social functions to increase my reach.
I am currently on the Platinum level of the Avon Rewards programme, and am working hard in order to reach Platinum Elite status. It is my responsibility to ensure that after work, I contact my representatives to determine what assistance they need so that they may provide support to their customers and earn an income. It is my responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind in my team. There are three family members who I recruited as representatives, and they are now successful business owners who build and grow their own teams as well. As of now, I am working towards ensuring that at least 80% of my representatives are at the Silver level of Avon Rewards. My children's pride in me keeps me going.
The 30% discounts and free products that I receive from Avon Rewards motivate me to work hard each quarter. Furthermore, I am motivated by the Avon Top Seller events I am a part of each year as a result of my hard work. The fact that all expenses are covered by Avon and that I am always treated as a VIP is very appealing to me.

To earn a living in these challenging economic times
In my role as the breadwinner of my family, I have always been expected to provide for their needs. I provide support to my younger siblings, pay their school fees, provide them with housing, and attend to their daily financial and emotional needs. After migrating to South Africa from Ghana in 2013, I have been able to take better care of my family through the financial benefits I have received from Avon. I am currently a full-time Math and Science teacher and am the breadwinner for both my immediate family and extended family. The reason I joined Avon in 2016 was that my salary would not be sufficient to support my living expenses as well as my extended family's financial needs. Having access to one of the world's leading global beauty brands that is not available in my home country was an excellent opportunity for me.
Being an independent Avon Representative is advantageous to my friends and neighbors, since they can place and receive their orders from me. For my business to thrive, I must look after my customers so I take my business very seriously. My business requires me to dedicate at least three to four hours a week. I have been encouraged to become my best self by my Area Sales Manager, Tsholofelo Matima, and I am able to apply the skills she has taught me as an Avon Representative to my teaching career.
In addition to supplementing my income, my Avon earnings have also:
- Enabled me to build a house in my home country for the benefit of my family.
- It is now possible for me to pay rent in a decent apartment in South Africa where I reside, Johannesburg South.
- I have been able to purchase a car which has made traveling and customer trips much more convenient for me.
- Until joining Avon, I was not able to enjoy things like holiday trips and just to add, joining Avon has sharpened my entrepreneurial skills.
As an Avon Representative, I have had the opportunity to receive product training and training on tools that are of the highest quality.

I decided to pursue this career path as a way to supplement my income
I lost my job due to COVID a few months after joining Avon and had to sit down and determine how I could continue to earn and provide for my family by using Avon. Due to the virus, most people weren't comfortable going out, so I used Avon ON to access the digital brochure, shared it with my customers and everyone I know via WhatsApp so that they could support me and receive their essentials.

My Husband and I made the decision for me to leave the Corporate Sales Industry and become a stay-at-home mom, which I did for two years. I loved every minute of being at home with my two girls, but something was missing. Being an ambitious and independent person, I began to feel frustrated and insecure because I had lost my financial independence and felt guilty for not contributing towards my family’s future.
At this stage, I had two choices: I could either re-join the Corporate Industry and have very limited time with my family or take a chance with the Nu Skin Opportunity that was presented to me, and start working from home which is something I'd always wanted to do. I am so proud to have had the opportunity to be associated with Avon.
I am a single parent with 3 children. My husband passed away over 10 years ago and I had to educate my children on my own and Avon helped pay for this. My eldest son studied Marketing and in addition I was able to buy him his first car. My second son studied Marketing and Financial Management and I also paid for his first car. My daughter completed Matric 3 years ago and enjoyed a break year from her studies while deciding what she would like to study the following year. I was also able to buy her a car!
Avon has also enabled me to tour the United States and Europe. I’ve also been to Australia and New Zealand.

My Nu Skin journey started in February 2014. At the time I was doing Nu Skin part-time while being in the Construction Industry. By August 2014 my commission had grown considerably, allowing me to leave my occupation and persue my Nu Skin byusiness full time.
Partnering with a company like Nu Skin gave me the confidence to approach people that I normally would not, people that are older, very successful and could be intimidating. My self-confidence has improved not only in the way I relate to people but also being comfortable to speak in front of anybody. I have learnt to listen carefully to people in order to identify their needs. I have also learned that I can give everybody the same opportunity, although they need to decide whether this business is for them, or not.
To be successful in Nu Skin, patiance & perserverance is key. You also need to follow a proven system and be coachable.
Since I started my business I have experienced the freedom of time, I have the freedom to accommodate new prospects at time that suit them best. I am a 43 year old married woman blessed with two lovely children, Dineo and Joas. I am staying in Bendor, a suburb in the City of Polokwane in Limpopo.
I was introduced to Justine by a friend in 1998 as a means to make extra money while I was still working at a bank. I decided to try it and joined Justine as a Consultant. By 2005, I was a Justine Business Leader although still working full time.
In February 2010 I attended a Business Leaders’ workshop at Fourways, Gauteng and was motivated by the amazing success stories presented by full time Justine Business Leaders. They shared with us on how they strategised to make their business grow. This was the turning point of my business. Following the workshop, I was so inspired that I recruited 50 consultants from having only 6 before. By December 2010 I had resigned from my position as a Customer Service manager at the Bank so I could focus on my Justine Business. The success of my Justine business continued with my earnings growing to double what I was earning at the Bank for many years.
In 2011, I opened my Justine office at Dada House Building, office 306 at Grobler Street in the center of the city (Polokwane). By the end of 2011, I had 125 registered Consultants and my salary tripled! During that time I was also one of the top sellers of the new Justine Utopia fragrance, the reward for which was a weekend away for two to the magnificent Victoria Falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe. My husband and I enjoyed 3 beautiful days at the Victoria Falls including a sunset cruise in the perennial Zambezi river in March this year.
In May, Justine spoiled me and 14 other top achieving Justine Business Leaders with an eight day trip to Bali in Indonesia. We spent our nights at a 5 star hotel and toured the province of Bali, admiring its beauty and rice plantations. The other highlights of this outing were meeting different people with diverse cultures as well as experiencing the country’s popular mode of transport, the motorbike transport. We also enjoyed a cruise along the islands.
Because of the incredible earnings and the great recognition and rewards from the company I really enjoy what I am doing and always looking forward to the next day. In addition I have groomed, developed and motivated my team to reach the same level of success.
After my husband died in 2006 she had to depend on her Avon earnings. The income helped her to support her step-daughter who was just 19 years old at the time. She was also able to provide for her brother's teenage daughter as she is the sole breadwinner at home.
In 2009 she bought a laptop to help her run her Avon business more efficiently. By 2011 she had managed to buy a stand with a two bedroom house cash using the earnings from her business.

More than 30 years ago, Annique Consultant, Sanette Horn, was earning a good salary at her fulltime, corporate job.
